Big Sean – Mula (feat. French Montana) [VIDEO]

Mula

Big Sean just dropped the video for the Young Chop-produced “Mula” featuring French Montana.  The Detroit rapper goes full blown Tarzan on a mansion chandelier in the video for this song, one of the biggest tracks off the widely successful mixtape named after his hometown city.  If you’ve been in a coma for the past few months, head here and grab the Detroit mixtape now.

Grip Plyaz – Jackie Joyner (feat. Aleon Craft & Trinidad Jame$)

Purp x Wind x Fire

Meanwhile, in Ratchetville….know that song “Chariots of Fire” that’s been used in hundreds of slow motion movie scenes?  It’s gotten the hip hop production treatment from our homies down south, courtesy of Grip Plyaz on “Jackie Joyner” featuring Aleon Craft & Trinidad Jame$.  A bonus track on his Purp x Wind x Fire mixtape, but don’t expect much substance on the bars (song titles include Dayee Izz, Fugginhudumara, Died (In Yo Pussy), Wasaname, Child Support, & Fuck dat Hipster Shit).  Jackie Joyner’s production is too infectious for its own good.  If you want to download the mixtape, you can head here and name your price.

League of Starz – Show Sumn (feat. Skeme, Problem, Freddie Gibbs, Jay Rock, Glasses Malone, & Bad Lucc)

Show Sumn

The West Coast army of producers League of Starz brings together Skeme, Problem, Freddie Gibbs, Jay Rock, Glasses Malone, & Bad Lucc for the hard hitting “Show Sumn”.  After producing hits for artists like Tyga, French Montana, E-40, & Young Jeezy, LOS have announced their first compilation album LOS.FM coming early 2013.  This track is the first single off that record.

DyMe-A-DuZiN – Swank Sinatra (feat. Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly, & Capital STEEZ)

A Portrait of Donnovan

Check out the youngblood DyMe-A-DuZiN, 20-year-old emcee from Brooklyn with raw talent and potential.  “Swank Sinatra” brings together Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly, & Capital Steez for the first video/single off his debut mixtape A Portrait of Donnovan set to drop January 9th.  A new deal with Warner Bros. combined with the old school, 90’s NY hip hop vibe his music inflicts, this kid could be one to watch out for in 2013.

A-Trak – Piss Test [REMIX] (feat. Juicy J, Jim Jones, Flatbush Zombies, El-P, & Flosstradamus)

Loosies

Love drugs?  Good chance you’ll love the remix of “Piss Test”, A-Trak’s single from the past summer.  He brings on Flosstradamus to transform the tune 360 degrees with a powerful trap beat.  Although Danny Brown wasn’t included this time around, Juicy J sticks around and merges with a massive entourage that includes Jim Jones, the eccentric Brooklyn crew Flatbush Zombies, and El-P.  The most latter member of this remix lineup delivers the best bars on this beat by far – unfortunately, you have to hear everyone else first as he’s the last to come on.  Not to diss JJ and the Zombies, but he really steals the show.

This will be part of a upcoming compilation album titled Loosies from the Fool’s Gold family.  The record’s inaugural released will include 22 tracks personally curated by the label founders, A-Trak & Nick Catchdubs.  Coming December 18th.

Pusha T – Blocka [VIDEO]

Blocka

Last week I posted the new jam from Pusha T featuring Popcaan & Travis Scott, “Blocka”.  He was in Jamaica at the time filming the video and just like that, the video is here for the public.  You’ll find Pusha in the Jamaican slums surrounded by native gangsters, a chilling image when you realize a few of them don’t look any older than 13.  Still no release date for his Wrath of Caine mixtape, only that it’s coming soon.

Big Boi – Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors

Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors

With Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, Big Boi has made his case loud and clear for record of the year.  A truly unique piece of work, it’d be narrow-minded to simply call this a hip hop album.  Sure, with jams like “In the A” feat Ludacris & T.I. and “Gossip” featuring UGK & Big K.R.I.T., the 37-year-old continues to show why he’s one of the greatest to rise out of Atlanta.  However, appearances from indie-pop due Phantogram, as well as Swedish band Little Dragon am0ng others truly take this album to another level.  Whether it’s the emotionally-charged acoustic ballad “Descending”, the seductive “Objectum Sexuality”, or the synth bass information age lamenting of “CPU”, this is an impressive work of art.  Included below is the first single from the album, “Lines” featuring A$AP Rocky & Phantogram.  You can grab the whole thing on iTunes here.

The Game – Jesus Piece

Jesus Piece

I never really was huge on The Game, and even his dedicated fans have been disappointed with his most recent material.  However, after I heard “Hallelujah”, a leaked track with Jamie Foxx, I figured I should give his new album Jesus Piece a serious listen.  Let me tell you, it’s well worth it.

Initially branded as a concept album, the presence of religion in this project is more of a theme than anything.  The Game seemingly opens up in confession, lamenting his desire to be good with God but how too often the hustler, rapper lifestyle gets in the way.  If you’re looking for features, search no further.  The cast of appearances is top notch and includes Rick Ross, Meek Mill, J Cole, Kanye, Big Sean, & Kendrick Lamar, to name a few.

Jesus Piece has some solid tracks that reflect its spiritual theme (Jesus Piece feat. Kanye & Common, Can’t Get Right feat. K Roosevelt) but still finds time to lay out some harsh bars (Scared Now feat. Meek Mill, See No Evil feat. Kendrick Lamar & Tank, Dead People).  There are some duds (Heaven’s Arms, Blood Diamonds) but overall, this is clearly The Game’s best work to date.  I’ve included “Ali Bomaye” feat. 2 Chainz & Rick Ross, my favorite track other than Hallelujah.  Still, make sure you grab the whole album on iTunes here.

DJ Wally Sparks – SPKSMEN Mixtape Vol. 1

SPKSMEN Vol. 1

Christmas is here a little early with the SPKSMEN Mixtape Vol. 1, mixed by DJ Wally Sparks and co-presented by the crew at The Smoking Section.  Featured last week was “Now and Then” from Big K.R.I.T. and Slim Thug, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg on this 19-track project.  Smoke DZA, Freddie Gibbs, Boaz, and iNDEED all make appearances, just to name a few more.  It’s well worth the listen so head over to TSS and download it for free.  Also, show the dudes over at SPKSMEN some love for putting this together and grab some new threads for the holiday season.
