Some things in this world were just meant to be together. Bonnie & Clyde, peanut butter & jelly, Kim Kardashian & black men…and of course, house music & country. Wait, what? Surprising though it may be, Canadian duo Smalltown DJs made good work of some banjo chords on the truly unique “Good People”. Getting assistance from trap/rave producer Grandtheft, it’s sounds as if someone’s holding a rave on a backwoods Mississippi farm. You can check out the hilarious redneck compilation video below, stream the full song, and grab the download for free. Smalltown DJs will officially release the Good People EP on January 8th through T&A Records.
Check out this video for dubstep producer xKore’s remix of “Another Day” by Modestep featuring Popeska. The original was a hit for the the electronic band from the UK, and now the remix is starting the gain headway on airwaves across the pond. The video follows a boy’s social ascension from nerd to the “cool kid” at his high school. You’ll notice a lot of hardcore/rock influence here as Modestep typically performs live with a guitarist, making a solid foundation for a hard-hitting dubstep remix. Their new album Evolution Theory is coming January 14th and this track will be available on the deluxe version.
From Wolfgang Gartner’s Kindergarten Records we get Conro and his debut release Axiom. The British Columbia native drops a track that almost gets written off as just another electro house tune, but twists things up with some well-placed vocal samples and a dubbed-out drum beat. The EP also includes the basstastic “Feel You Right There”. Get it here on Beatport.
Let me first make it clear that I am NOT a Bruno Mars fan. That being said, I think Major Lazer just made me one. At least for this song. The reggae rework of “Locked Out of Heaven” is as uplifting as it is relaxing. Although it may err to far on the pop-electronic side for some, especially those ML fans who long for the old moombah sound they came to epitomize, this remix is nothing short of infectious. Coming out on iTunes soon – for now, listen below.
“Satisfaction”, the classic electro hit from Benny Benassi, has been remixed, mashed up, chopped, screwed, and sampled a million times over. It wouldn’t be fair if the trap genre didn’t take a crack at it, and RL Grime did just that. It’s a well-applauded effort and served well to remind me why I fell in love with the original years ago when it came out. The track will be officially released on Ultra Records December 17th via iTunes.
Dubstep enthusiast Benga announced early this month he’ll be releasing three new tracks over the next three weeks to build anticipation for his upcoming album Chapter II set to drop February 25th. The second of these songs is the nineties-esque “Open Your Eyes” which incorporates a bassline and samples that many are relating to electronic legends the Prodigy. The accompanying video, a dark, disturbing clip headlined by a cloaked, voodoo-like figure clutching a bleeding heart, is not available on YouTube but can be found here. Unfortunately, the Brit has only released these songs on UK iTunes here, but American fans can still listen below.
