Some things in this world were just meant to be together. Bonnie & Clyde, peanut butter & jelly, Kim Kardashian & black men…and of course, house music & country. Wait, what? Surprising though it may be, Canadian duo Smalltown DJs made good work of some banjo chords on the truly unique “Good People”. Getting assistance from trap/rave producer Grandtheft, it’s sounds as if someone’s holding a rave on a backwoods Mississippi farm. You can check out the hilarious redneck compilation video below, stream the full song, and grab the download for free. Smalltown DJs will officially release the Good People EP on January 8th through T&A Records.
From Wolfgang Gartner’s Kindergarten Records we get Conro and his debut release Axiom. The British Columbia native drops a track that almost gets written off as just another electro house tune, but twists things up with some well-placed vocal samples and a dubbed-out drum beat. The EP also includes the basstastic “Feel You Right There”. Get it here on Beatport.
Regardless of whether or not you’re preparing for the supposed incoming Mayan apocalypse, Steve Aoki seems to be. He just dropped a 3-track EP yesterday titled It’s the End of the World As We Know It. My favorite of the three is the delightfully happy “Transcend” featuring Rune RK, a progressive EDM song that will serve well to help me ignore any chance of the world being blown into oblivion. Grab the EP here on iTunes.
Check out this video for “Love & War” from Wolfgang Gartner, a single that very quickly became one of my favorite electro-house songs to come out this year. It was filmed in the midst of his Love & War tour on 10/27/12 at The Warfield in San Francisco. Chances are if you were up front at that show, you’ll find your face somewhere in the clip.
When Showtek & Bassjackers announced a few weeks ago their intention of releasing a song together, I instantly assumed the final product’s main purpose would be to blow out the speaker(s) wherever it was played. I was right. “Hey!”, although creatively challenged title-wise, is an absolute massive festival EDM anthem. Not sure I can die happy until I hear this full blast alongside an audience 100,000 people strong. Radio edit was posted today and official release comes December 31st, just in time for the new year.
If you were a fan of Nari & Milani’s massive hit “Atom” from earlier this year, you’ll absolutely love this tune. “Flashbang” is the second official release from German duo Jewelz & Scott Sparks, the follow up to their first hit “Toxic Rush”. This track was first premiered at Sensation Turkey in the midst of Fedde le Grand and Deniz Koyu’s sets. Partnering with Fedde’s Flaming Recordings, the two have focused upon a minimalist tech house style with festival anthem power and energy. They do a beautiful job of emphasizing the drums and percussion, proving that more isn’t always better. The track is out on Beatport here.
Swedish producer Adrian Lux teams up with Naiv to remix fellow Swede Frida Sundemo‘s electro pop hit “Indigo”. The result is a dreamy progressive house track that makes up for its failure to avoid the all-too predictable drop sequence by focusing on the beauty of Sundemo’s voice. No information on its release just yet.
